The Perry County Health Department will be offering the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking cessation classes beginning June 5.
This seven week program is for individuals who are ready to quit smoking now.
Because most people know that smoking is dangerous to their health, the program focuses almost exclusively on how to quit, not why to quit.
How The Program Works:
Freedom from Smoking is based on proven addiction and behavior change models. The program offers a structured, common-sense approach to quitting, and its positive messaging highlights the benefits of better health.
Because no single quit smoking method is effective for all smokers, the program includes a comprehensive variety of evidence-based cessation techniques.
The program also includes the latest research about nicotine replacement therapy (gum, inhalers, patches, lozenges and nasal spray) and other smoking cessation medications such as Zyban and Chantix.
If you are interested in signing up for the program or if you have a business that would like to offer this to your employees, please contact Sheila Hahs, RN at the Perry County Health Department at (573) 547-6564. Make this be the year that you quit smoking!
